The sun is finally out!!! It also seems my Instagram feed is full of people off on holiday this week, so it’s got me thinking about maternity wear for the summer. I love holiday shopping, it gives me the opportunity to play with prints and colours more than I probably would in day to day life, and have a lot of fun in doing so.
On holiday / in the summer when you’re pregnant and dressing an ever growing bump you can feel hot and uncomfortable so it’s even more important to go for clothes you feel happy in. If that means something really simple that covers all (I lived in a black maxi in the latter stages of my first pregnancy when the thermostat hit 35 degrees!), then there’s little tricks to dress it up, meaning you’ll still feel fabulous.
The high street is awash with summer options, so it can be pretty overwhelming. Here’s a few picks I’m loving for holiday and the summer beyond.
A beach cover up is an absolute must for holiday. Kaftans seem to be massively back in fashion in a move away from separates which is great for pregnancy as they’re so comfortable and will cover your growing bump.
Monsoon – £45.00
I love a Maxi dress for holiday. Covers a multitude of sins, and they add a bit of glamour if wearing for the evening, or just great as a throw on item for a day at the beach.
Palm Bardot Dress
Warehouse – £36.00
A good day to evening dress is also a great addition to you’re maternity wardrobe if you’re doing a bit of activity or sightseeing on holiday. Or if you’re just looking for the summer these floaty options will be great for days at home in the sun while you’re pregnant
Moving on to accessories which are so important when you’re pregnant and thinking about maternity wear. First up is a good hat, not only practical to keep you shady, but a great maternity tool is a wide brimmed hat (I know it sounds tenuous, stick with me!). It’s a trick I learnt from a pregnant mum friend of mine. A wide brimmed hat will draw focus away from your bump, and make you look fabulous in to the bargain!
Great sandals can totally make a maternity outfit. If you’re not looking to invest a load of new holiday clothes, buying a couple of pairs of new sandals can really refresh your maternity wardrobe and make you feel great.
I can’t go on holiday without a giant beach bag, especially now I have a little one, and have to throw everything and more in to one bag! Go for colour or straw to be bang on trend this summer!
Finally a few options of maternity swimwear. These are true maternity styles, as I think swimming costumes are one of the things worth investing in proper maternity wear when you’re pregnant so you stay comfortable whether you’re on the beach or doing laps in the lido.
