Sometimes it feels like there’s a real lack of good quality maternity clothing coming from the UK. It’s one of the reasons I like to buy non-maternity from the high street. However I know that some days it’s good have some maternity clothing which is comfortable and totally functional.
Instagram (and the internet of course) have helped me discover some great maternity clothing brands based outside the UK. Australia particularly seems to be catering to the pregnant market particularly well, with a number of brands doing a variety of styles of clothing. That’s one of the things which bothers me about a lot of maternity which is on offer in the UK, that there’s no real variety, its all so samey. Or it’s frumpy and styles I wouldn’t wear if I weren’t pregnant, so why would I choose them because I am pregnant. So sometimes it feels worthwhile paying the extra shipping for something which looks good pregnant but you’ll also want to wear after the baby has arrived.
Here’s my picks of the international maternity clothing brands which I feel are producing great, stylish products you’ll want to wear…
The first Australian brand I’ll feature here, Legoe Heritage do really chic, timeless styles. There’s some workwear styles if that’s what you’re looking for, but what they do really well is casual wear, making even the comfiest of maternity clothing look fabulous. They also do a number of styles which work for breastfeeding too, so if you’re thinking of price per wear then this will definitely add longevity to your purchase.
They do international shipping so getting it here is no issue, however returns aren’t free so don’t order multiple sizes like you may do from a UK site. They do have a really good size guide too, and product fit notes on each style. Plus they’re happy to accept sizing queries via email which is great no matter where you’re ordering from. Here’s a few of my favourites from the Legoe Heritage current collection.
A lingerie brand which does incredibly sexy underwear, including a line of bras which work for maternity and breastfeeding. To say that’s few and far between in the UK would be a huge understatement, which is why I love what Silent Arrow are doing.
These bras aren’t ones you’ll stick at the back of the drawer as soon as you possibly can, as they’re frankly gorgeous. Their campaigns feature real women, and nursing mums when it comes to the Mama range, which is a real breath of fresh air.
To top all that off, they’re affordable too, even with the international shipping cost. There’s a great size guide too, with particular reference to the fits of maternity bras.
Paris based Envie De Fraise are pros when it comes to international supply, with free returns making your maternity shopping experience simple and risk free. Their assortment is huge, so plenty of choice, and they do occasionwear and more casual styles, plus swimwear and lingerie, making it a great one stop shop for your maternity clothing needs.
There isn’t a great deal of maternity activewear in the UK, and nursing activewear bras are even more rare. Designed by a mum for mums, this Australian brand has a range of pretty sports bras which will work for maternity and for breastfeeding, and also some leggings and other activewear.
They have a great sizing chart, which has real examples allowing you to pick the best size for you.
Yet another Australian brand, this time specialising in casual maternity clothing. It might be simple, but it’s chic and high quality, the perfect addition for your weekend pregnancy wardrobe.
They’re well geared up for international shipping, and accept returns. Plus they also have a number of styles which are designed for breastfeeding, so again if that’s you’re plan and thinking about price per wear, this brand is definitely worth a look.
