A jumpsuit is a great option for maternity wear. I was wary of them for a long time, thinking they’d accentuate any weight around your middle, and as I’m quite short make me look dumpy. In fact get the right fit and they can be incredibly flattering.
They’re great for pregnancy as they prevent mum bum, and are really versatile, working for day to evening, and dressed up with accessories they’ll work for a wedding or event too.
When shopping for a jumpsuit as maternity wear it’s best to look for:
- something with a higher elasticated waist- it’ll sit above your bump and give you shape and definition
- Make sure it has a decent drop (i.e. the crotch), as your bump grows the last thing you want is it riding up and giving you unsightly camel toe
- Go for wide or tapered legs, anything in between is likely to gut you off in the wrong way. A wide leg crop is particularly great this time of year.
The high street has some great non-maternity and maternity offerings at the moment, here’s The Bump Edit’s picks:
Soft Utility Jumpsuit
I love this style, it’s simple but got some great detailing, and the soft fabric is really flattering for maternity wear. Plus it’s got a lovely stretch which means it’ll grow with you as you go through pregnancy. The buttons also make it great for breastfeeding once your baby has arrived.
Oasis – £52.00
Tropical Botanical Jumpsuit
Another great offering from Oasis, and perfect for summer. The tropical print is really lovely, and a good alternative to florals if thats not your thing. It’s got a belted waist which will nip you in above your bump, with the top half draping nicely. Just size up so it works with you as you bump grows.
Embroidered Jersey Jumpsuit
This Monsoon Jersey jumpsuit is sooo stretchy and comfortable, I really didn’t want to take it off. It’s pretty simple but has pretty embroidered detailing around the neck and pockets (yes it has pockets, added bonus!!). The waist looks quite low, but the fabric is so stretchy, and you can easily wear the waist above your bump and the top will just drape a little.
If you’re not looking to spend a fortune on your maternity wear, then this H&M jumpsuit if a great addition. Stretchy fabric and elasticated waist, it’s perfect for everyday wear. Dress it up with bright accessories, and detailed sandals.
This offering from M&S is great value for money. It’s draped fabric and loser fit means it’ll work for you as you go through pregnancy. Plus it’s multiway so you can wear it strapless in early trimesters when you don’t need a bra, and then in later months of maternity change the fit and have a bit more coverage, and the much needed bra support!
Back to H&M for this spotty number, it has great draping so it’ll sit really well above your bump. It’ll also be really flattering on your newly enhanced pregnancy boobs in later trimesters! Love the wide legs too, really flattering if like me you worry about your thighs.
A maternity option now, from Next. Sure it’s black and pretty plain, but the shape feels different to most of the bog standard maternity jumpsuits on offer. It’s got a more tailored feel so would definitely work for the office as you go through pregnancy.
