I love that this blog gives me the opportunity to meet and get to know amazing expectant mums. I recently caught up with the incredibly glamorous Maya (Just Another Mum Blogger) who shared her thoughts on pregnancy and dressing with a bump. She’s been inspiring her Instagram following with a great mix of maternity and non maternity options, so I couldn’t wait to hear more about how she’s found being pregnant this time around.
Here’s Maya’s pregnancy story…
As this isn’t your first pregnancy, tell us a bit more about your family…
There are just three of us; my partner Gus and our little son Santino (Sonny) who is 16 Months old.
How far along are you?
35 weeks! It feels weird saying it as its honestly flown by this time around!
Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl?
We are having a little girl, which I am honestly so happy about. I have always wanted a little girl and to be honest I don’t think I could handle another boy. Sonny has so much energy I cant keep up!
How has this pregnancy been treating you?
The first 3 and a half months were honestly the hardest ever. I suffered from Hyperemesis and I was throwing up around 20+ times a day. I was exhausted and constantly nauseous. It was such a miserable time.
Do you feel different in this pregnancy from your previous one?
Totally! I feel way more confident in the changes in my body and how to dress them. I am less worried about gaining weight as I know you can lose it, especially running after toddlers but also because f*ck it, you know! I also think since starting my Blog www.justanothermumblogger.com I have discovered so many other inspiring Mum Blogger accounts and the way they have styled and dressed their bumps has given me the confidence to try new things.
Have you been experiencing any anxiety in this pregnancy?
Yes, but more about how I am going to cope with the lack of sleep at the beginning. I really struggled with it with Sonny and it made me such a ratty, snappy, hormonal mess. I am worried it’s going to be harder this time around as I will have two under two!
How would you describe your pregnancy style?
I’m not really sure to be honest with you. I guess I try and be reasonably glam and show off my bump as much as I can. I definitely am more experimentive whilst pregnant than when I’m not.
Hide the bump or show off the bump?
All about showing off the bump! Embrace it!
In terms of clothes, what are your maternity essentials?
Leather Leggings, a fitted Midi Black dress, a long blazer and good fitting underwear.
What’s your favourite maternity brand (clothes)?
Topshop for clothes
Are there any high street or independent brands which aren’t maternity but you’ve felt work really well for pregnancy?
Zara, normal ASOS as well as some of their Maternity and normal H&M
What beauty products do you swear by for pregnancy?
What can you not live without in pregnancy?
My fortnightly pregnancy massage. Honestly it has played havoc with my back plus picking up and putting down my toddler is tough on it too so it has been a life saver.
Are there any style/ fashion lessons you’ve learnt along the way in your pregnancies?
Comfort is key. Its all very well looking glam but when you are pregnant it can be uncomfortable as it is so its good to ensure you are always comfortable too.
Is there anything you feel is still really missing from the maternity fashion market in the UK?
I think there is a lot of frump out there so I think rather than something being missing, it might be worth companies looking at their sizing and producing less tent-like clothing.
Have you done a lot of reading / research about pregnancy and childbirth?
Not really as I’ve done it before
What else if anything have you done to prepare for birth?
We have taken hypnobirthing classes. I am still a tad cynical as I didn’t find my classes that different from NCT and I don’t really like a lot of the scripts!
Sum up pregnancy in 3 words…
Amazing, Exhausting and Empowering
What’s your favourite thing about being pregnant?
Being able to eat whatever I like!
What would you say is the worst thing about being pregnant?
Those last few exhausting, swollen weeks haha
What advice would you give to other pregnant women?
Just embrace it and know that this time is not for long so try and enjoy it
If you could go back and tell your first time pregnant self one thing, what would it be?
What would your one bit of advice for new mums be?
Naps save lives!
